'Til Kingdom Come
From WikiColdplay
Til' Kingdom Come is the 13th and final track on Coldplay's 3rd studio album X&Y. The song is a hidden track and is preceded by 30 seconds of silence following Twisted Logic. The song is also labeled as "+" on the album's track listing. It was originally intended to be a duet with Johnny Cash, but he passed away before he could record his part. As tribute, Coldplay often mix the song with Cash's "Ring of Fire" while playing it live. Also as tribute, Chris Martin appears in the video for the posthumous Cash release "God's Gonna Cut You Down", which won the 2008 Grammy for best short form music video.
The Oracle on 'Til Kingdom Come

Q. Ok, so music related question, I was listen to The Libertines, precisely Last Post On The Bugle and I noticed that there's a verse that goes:
Inside I felt
So, so alone
Locked in a room
Waiting til kingdom come
Although I felt elated
I felt like I was scum.
So I thought that maybe Coldplay were inspired by this to make their song Til Kingdom Comes.
So did they took inspiration from The Libertines?
The Oracle replies:
No, "until kingdom come" is a well known phrase from a prayer and basically it means until the end of the world / forever.

Q. Dear O. My doubt is about Til' Kingdom Come, I've heard many times that it was written by Chris looking forward to play it with Johnny Cash, but he passed away and the band could never play it with him. Recently, I've heard people talking about it and some say it was originally written by Mr. Johnny Cash himself, even though I've never heard a Cash version. I would like me to get out of my doubt if you are so kind.
The Oracle replies:
Spidey is making this song very popular with question askers...
It was written BY Coldplay FOR Johnny Cash to sing.

Q. Dear Oracle that never answers my questions
I've just seen The Amazing Spiderman and wanted to know if the band recorded a new song for the movie or if it is an old one.
Thanks and greetings from Germany.
The Oracle replies:
'Til Kingdom Come was written and recorded back in 2005 and is the hidden track on the band's X&Y album. The version on the new Spiderman film is neither a new track nor a new recording.

Q. Dear Oracle: I know that in the Timeline in the year 2007 where Guy wrote something about Buenos Aires there is a video. In that version of 'Til Kingdom Come I can swear it's Guy singing, is he singing or Chris?
The Oracle replies:
Chris does sound a little different in the verses - a little deeper perhaps - but it is Chris with Will doing backing vocals. Guy is on harmonica as was usual during this song.

Q. In the live show in Toronto in the beginning of the song 'Til Kingdom Come Chris says "we wrote this song for Johnny Cash and in return he gave us..." what does he say after that??
The Oracle replies:
Chris says "... this is a song we wrote for Johnny Cash and in return he gave us our dress sense". After a pause he adds "except for our shoes which we got from Usher".

Q. When I get married I want to use 'Till Kingdom Come' as the song that plays when my father gives me away. My boyfriend says the song is death-related. I don't think so. WHAT is the meaning of the song? Help us out!
The Oracle replies:
Given that wedding vows are all about "'til death do us part" I'd say it doesn't matter one iota if the song was or wasn't written about death; it sounds like a perfect song to choose.
If you hear a different meaning in the lyrics it's what it means to you and so it fits.

Q. Dear Oracle,
I just realized that no one outside US and UK don't know what "Til Kingdom come" actually means.Does it mean that Kingdom is going to come or what? Or is it some kind of metaphor used in English language? Please answer!!!
P.S. Sorry for my English.
The Oracle replies:
It originates from biblical times and is commonly known for its use in The Lord's Prayer. Generally it means until the end of time.

Q. Did Johnny Cash write 'Til Kingdom Come?
The Oracle replies:
'Til Kingdom Come was actually written for Johnny Cash, but he sadly died just before he recorded his vocals to the track. The band decided to record it. It is a hidden track on X&Y and was performed as part of their acoustic set during the Twisted Logic Tour.
Lyrics
Steal my heart and hold my tongue I feel my time, my time has come Let me in, unlock the door I've never felt this way before And the wheels just keep on turning The drummer begins to drum I don't know which way I'm going I don't know which way I've come Hold my head inside your hands I need someone who understands I need someone, someone who hears For you, I've waited all these years For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come Until my day, my day is done And say you'll come and set me free Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me In your tears and in your blood In your fire and in your flood I hear you laugh, I heard you sing I wouldn't change a single thing And the wheels just keep on turning The drummers begin to drum I don't know which way I'm going I don't know what I've become For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come Until my days, my days are done And say you'll come and set me free Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
