Incredible. Absolutely incredible. What a fantastic show. I don't think I'm ever taking this bracelet off! Seriously can't wait for June now. Sleeping will be an impossible task tonight... [Thanks TomJMusic]
Photos and videos cannot capture what the MEN was like tonight, it was absolutely rocking!! Wristbands are incredible, beautiful. [Thanks JackColdplay]
I've just got home. Seriously astonishing. When the wristbands started flashing during MX I had goosebumps, I couldn't stop saying wow at the time staring in disbelief. Was right in front of Jonny and he looked so happy all night I think the lads may have been a bit taken back with all the wristbands too. My legs are aching, I jumped, I met a tumblr friend there so randomly, I sat with some nice girls on the train back and I have a beaming smile that may not disappear for a while. Thankyou Coldplay, 29/05/12. [Thanks R_Burns]
Overall a good gig, especially with the awesome wristbands but not quite as good as LCCC. Thats mainly due to the setlist for me but ah well still cracking. Was shocked by the official parking price. £15! Explains why there were some pretty tasty motors in there though. [Thanks gib786]
It was a good thing I got there early.. there was 16 of us there in the morning when the Coldplay crew came out and asked us if we'd like to help them with some jobs backstage.. So off we went - unpacked, de-isolated and counted 18000 wristbands for the show - in a nice warm room and looked after really well all day. In return for our work we got to go right to the front barriers before the doors opened, so I had a brilliant day and evening! Highlight - Daylight! [Thanks Hasan18]
'Had such a brilliant time last night! The arena looked so beautiful with thousands of colourful wristbands all flashing in time to the music. Unluckily my mum's didn't work, and mine was faulty so it just glowed feebly all night instead of flashing - it's still lit up beside my bed! Charlie Brown is becoming one of my favourites live, so good. Was up in the rafters so couldn't have a proper good sing and dance, but thankfully everyone stood up from Viva onwards so I didn't have to sit down for too long! Bring on June at the Etihad [Thanks Laura'93]
'Nightmare traffic coming out, a couple of prangs (not us) in the snow on the M56 and didn't get back to Nottingham until 1:30am. However, what a superb night and a fantastic show, certainly up there with one of the best I've seen. I remember my first Coldplay gig (many years ago) when I was told to sit down! I don't think you'd get away with that now. Didn't know about the wristbands before we got there so when they all lit up at the start it was a breath-taking sight. Politik and God Put A Smile On Your Face, my two stand out songs of the night but nothing disappointed. Still, does anyone know how to make the wristbands start flashing again? My kids don't believe me (even though I've shown them the video). Well done Manchester, great night! [Thanks iantrem]
Wow! Wow! WOOOOOOOOOW! My first Coldplay concert! They have always been my favourite band and I have finally seen them! I was 'sat' in Block 215, Row Q, Seat 28...and my chair was broken!...Good job that I stood up from the moment Mylo Xyloto rang out until moments after the band left the stage! So shocked to see 'What If', 'Daylight' and 'Til Kingdom Come' played. I LOOOOOOOOOVE What If, and Daylight has always been one of their songs I like the least, but it was awesome live! GOOSEBUMPS at the beginning when Mylo Xyloto played and everyones wristbands started flashing, I had a red one! Some stupid people were banging the bands on the floor to get them working before coldplay came on...they did, but they didn't flash...and they continued not to flash until the end, because they had broken them! Ruined the experience for themselves a bit.... Highlights? Violet Hill and then GPASAYF STRAIGHT after- two of my fave Coldplay songs!! Brilliant!....'What If', ....Major Minus was also brilliant live, loved it! Oh...and CHARLIE BROWN! And Paradise was good...AND POLITIK!!!!!,...Ahh! It was all brilliant! A bit annoyed that I was in the seats, so far away from the band...but the experience was still immense! I am seeing them AGAIN In Manchester next June...WHERE I WILL BE STANDING!!! Can't wait. I wish I saw some of you Coldplayer's though! :/ But I will promise to do that in June! {thanks iPsy]
I was in the rear view seats directly behind the band and had an amazing view. I was only about 6 rows up and felt so close to them. I had been worried about it being a limited view but to be honest we had one of the best and every time anyone came round to our side the whole block went wild. They have a screen up so you can see the front view but did not feel the need to look at them and was happy watching Will banging away on the drums as I never normally focus on him. Still on a high. [Thanks tilly-uk]
So. First Coldplay gig, and Hurts Like Heaven leading into Yellow at the start made it worth the ticket price alone! I loved Lost as well, then the fuck up on Major Minus brought back memories of watching Glasto on telly and hearing some MX songs for the first time! In My Place, What If & Daylight were amazing and really stood out for me, if only because they were really unexpected. I loved the setlist idea of sandwiching the older songs amongst two chunks of MX. I was surprised when we reached Til Kingdom Come that we had only had 3 MX songs by that point. Then along came Politik, and the arena exploded! Most people around me had been stood up at various points of the gig so far, myself included, but everyone got up for Politik. Then Viva La Vida kept the energy high. Charlie Brown was, as always, beautiful and I enjoyed singing "Charlie Brown" in time with the guitar as I always do! And the wristbands were beautiful during Charlie Brown as well. Then Paradise, finishing the main set with a bang. Then Clocks, Fix You & finally ETIAW to really top of the whole night! Really great gig from a band I've loved for years. It was so good, that I'm tempted to try and source a ticket to next year's stadium gig at the Etihad. [thanks JaHawk2009]
I had the most amazing time ever, my first time i've seen Coldplay Was mindblowing! The wristbands were the best sight ever from my upper tier row A position, pictures and videos coming btw in the new few days from my phone. I couldn't believe it when they played What If, one of my favourite songs ever! (didn't look at previous nights setlist) and Daylight too, the new version is even more rocking!!!!! the end of Charlie Brown was speechless the whole upper tier was jumping, even the people who had been still all night were jumping, had the best time of my life and cannot wait to be at the front standing next time at Ricoh stadium end of May!!! [thanks 42rock89]
Just a quick post to say that there aren't possibly enough superlatives to describe how good a time I had last night. Was standing about 10 people back on the floor, Jonny side, but really had a perfect view of them all. I was amazed by this as due to being vertically challenged I never get a good view at gigs! Hard to pick out a favourite song, the first 6 songs from AROBTTH were amazing, especially Daylight, so glad I've seen it live. Also loved the little acoustic set, and obviously all the MX era songs, the wristbands are such a fantastic idea. [thanks Bebop28]
Media Reviews
- Coldplay @ MEN Arena, Manchester - review (CityLife)
Chris Martin is eager to please. “Everyone ok?” he asks. “Thank you so much for giving us your Sunday night”; “There’s nowhere we’d rather be.”
It goes on like this all night. I’m giving you the expletive-free versions, but goes to show that for someone who drops the ‘f’ word near enough every time he speaks, the Coldplay frontman really couldn’t be more polite. The feeling is mutual among the band’s Manchester audience as their heroes light up the M.E.N Arena – literally - with an energetic edit of their five studio albums. The band’s investment in a flashing wristband company has paid dividends with LED straps on every other member of the crowd sending tiny multi-coloured lights flashing around the arena in time to opening number, Hurts Like Heaven.
From there on, Martin bounds from guitar to piano and back again as he delivers some of the band’s biggest hits including Yellow, Clocks, The Scientist, Violet Hill and most recently Paradise – it goes on. There’s a blunder (not how the frontman terms it) in the opening bars to Major Minus – but it’s just a blip. Giant balloons bound around, with almost as much muscle as Martin, during Lost and Viva La Vida is so energetic it leaves him on the floor sweating and panting for breath. Contrast with the hymn-like Fix You, Up in Flames and ‘Til Kingdom Come, dedicated to the Stone Roses and performed by the four-piece in the middle of their crowd. Politik, from second album A Rush of Blood to the Head, proves to be among standout performances and as crowds leave they’re talking about Martin’s lyric change: ‘Two teams from Manchester at the top of the Premiership’. Now that’s a crowd pleaser. [2]
