Oooh man, was this such a surreal moment or what. Even after 2 days, it just doesn't seem like it happened. It was amazing.

My sister and I got there at 12:30pm (wristband line) and we met such amazing people in line (including coldplayer, w1ll1am7) where it was 6 of us then PlayAMessage met up with us (it was nice meeting you and anytime! always here to help out a fellow coldplayer)! We knew gates opened for us at 6:45pm but waiting in line made the experience awesome as well!

STORY: I swear I saw Guy walk past our line outside of Much but only one other person saw as well, but I was too starstruck to even say a word (but he seemed busy or needed to go somewhere, probably to the Edge interview)

Much Music were very well prepared and super nice to all of us (apparently they knew months before that Coldplay was going to come! I don't know how they kept that secret for so long!). A couple of people who work at Much Music gave out ponchos and answered a lot of questions we had (Mostly being: Were in the front of the line?). They did not tell us about the setlist - obviously wanted to keep that a secret! They took a picture of us (all 7!) because we were first in line, that was very nice of them! If we had any questions, we would tweet them and get answers within minutes! We also got to see the band's soundcheck for a good 10 minutes or so! That was really cool! And it rained. A lot. Forgot to mention that. Haha!

Then it came, 6:45pm. They started closing off Queens St. and they took us into the lot in 20s at 7pm and even though my sister and I are 5'0 and 5'2 respectively, we had a very nice view of the stage (about less than 10 people behind!). But I was a tad jealous of the Rogers ticket holders but honestly, anywhere in the lot, you had a very good view.

Much Music entertained us until 9pm and then, the lights dimmed and the rain stopped! And next thing you know, Coldplay was on stage. Everything about the concert was just flawless, it was amazing. I don't know how to describe it. It felt so intimate (even with thousands of people watching behind us), it was…no words. From the moment MX/HLH started to In My Place to playing Clocks to their newer songs (Paradise sounds AMAZING live), it was just perfect. The crowd was great! Singing along to both the newer and old songs. It was very nice of them to do an Amy Whinehouse tribute! Us Against the World, hearing it live…was just the icing on the cake. LOVED IT. Chris, Jonny, Will, Guy were so lively and happy and they seemed to really enjoy themselves! I'm really glad! (Haha Chris made a comment about Justin Bieber!)

Big big thanks to Much Music for sure, they did an amazing job. To the people (and coldplayers) I met in line, you're awesome - I can't wait for when we meet up for the next concert! And finally, Coldplay - for being them. Love life so much right now.

Quote from the show: "Coming to Canada is like taking a bath in greatness." - Chris Martin

(Sorry for the long post! I'm just too excited!)

This is my first post, but I just had to say how amazing the show was the other night, as well. My husband and I had wristbands and made it around 4:45 to stand in line. We still ended up with a pretty decent view. Actually it would have been a great view buy we got unlucky with extra tall people in front of us. lol I still had a total blast. They never cease to amaze me. It's ridiculous how happy they make me. I'm still on a Coldplay high and will be for some time, I'm sure.

Well to put it simply - The show was amazing! My friend and I were a couple people back from the stage and it was awesome! The rain made for an interesting 3hr wait, haha but I love rain so it was good fun!

I must say though, a little disappointed with some people in the crowd tonight - Umbrellas in my face during the wait when we were told not to bring them, and constantly being hit by large bags/backpacks (other items no one should have brought into the lot). And the guy behind me definitely ruined a good chunk of the show for me... Screaming the lyrics to every song (even the slow ones) and making guitar noises, etc. with his mouth all completely out of key and to the point where I could hear him more than Chris sometimes, and then he constantly commented on every single thing. I understand we are all excited but I thought that was just rude.

Aside from some people, was a solid night... I love photography and usually have my camera out taking pics through concerts but I left it in my bag the whole time, and took a couple with my friend's cam then we put away. We decided just to enjoy the show and super glad we did!

Tried watching the video up on the Much website but ready to pass out! So very glad I sit in a chair all day at work tmrw - I can barely feel my feet!

Hope everyone else who was there had a great time!

Great concert, contrary to what people said about the crowd not being into it, I would disagree, I don't think the taping did any justice. I was pleasantly surprised at to how many people knew all of the lyrics to their new stuff, and everyone at the front was really getting into it. I really felt that this was a true Coldplay concert in the sense that we waited outside in the rain, like the die-hard fans we are, all day just to see them perform for an hour. The weather was horrendous all day, then stopped raining right before the concert. I don't know if anyone saw the performance at Letterman, but that was a horrible crowd. It wasn't until the end where they really started getting into it. The boys seemed like they were having a great time, really getting into it. Their new stuff really is amazing live, especially Charlie Brown. I didn't realize how amazing the fireworks were until seeing it live. Definitely is a nice addition to the show. I don't think anyone has posted the setlist or anything yet, but here it is: 1. MX / Hurts Like Heaven 2. Yellow 3. In My Place 4. Major Minus 5. Paradise 6. God Put a Smile 7. Viva La Vida 8. Charlie Brown 9. The Scientist 10. Clocks 11. Fix You (With Rehab by Amy Winehouse intro) 12. ETIAW Encore 13. Us Against the World

I was fortunate enough to get a setlist, and they had Violet Hill on it, but they didn't end up playing it. Which I found to be a little strange, especially because they were playing it at the soundcheck. Glad to meet anyone who was there today and waited all day, can't wait to see you guys again!

The show was amazing! I was there before the soundcheck then after they moved us all to the opposite side of the street I left to buy a hat because I was getting soaked. I came back and waited around for about 2 hours and something said to me ask the security guard about wristbands. I asked if this is where the wristbanders were *just to be safe* thats when he said they are already inside these people don't have wristbands... WTFFF this whole time I waited thinking those were Rogers people. I was annoyed as you could imagine..the people in front of me were saying I wonder what song they will play first. Being a pretty big fan and seeing all the live streams and whatnot I knew it it was Hurts Like Heaven. It was really annoying to be at the very back infront of the cameras. I lived. I figured that might have happened to others and they might not have made it inside at all.

also on a side note I met Liam Gallagher right around the corner hours earlier

I came back and the show recorded and it was an amazing day so i'm still happy. Glad everyone enjoyed the show! One last thing being at the very back alot of people were jumping for Charlie Brown. The crowd was loving it and from those over head shots I saw after there was a hell of alot of people.

Just got back from the show. I was dead center about 7 or 8 feet from the stage. I agree that the crowd wasnt the greatest but I also noticed it was a lot of young people(15-16 year olds) in the area I was standing in. Just talking to people and over hearing it was many peoples first coldplay concert. I thought it was a good show, nice touch with the fireworks. For a free show (and free food!) im not complaining at all!

Media Reviews

Coldplay gives Toronto crowd peek at new album (thechronicleherald.ca):

TORONTO — Under a grey sky and intermittent rain, Coldplay gave a grateful Toronto crowd an early look at its long-anticipated fifth album with a free outdoor show at MuchMusic headquarters on Wednesday. Fans lined up along Queen Street West — shut down for the occasion — in the wee hours of the morning for a chance to take in a one-hour show from the British rockers, who hadn’t visited the city since a show at the Rogers Centre more than two years ago. With a constant drizzle raining down, fans huddled under umbrellas and donned plastic parkas during the show, and the band showed their gratitude for the crowd sticking it out through the dreary weather. "I can’t believe all of you put up with the wind and rain to be here," frontman Chris Martin said between songs. "I said before no one would show up... We’re English, we’re very insecure."

But the audience’s affection for the band was obvious. While waiting for the show to begin, fans collectively hummed the melody from Viva La Vida and chanted the band’s name, some clutching brightly coloured signs that wilted in the rain. Part of the draw was the opportunity to hear some of the new tunes cooked up for the band’s upcoming album, the cryptically titled Mylo Xyloto, due out Oct. 24. It’s been more than three years since we’ve heard from the London Brit-poppers. Their last record, Viva La Vida, opened at No. 1 in Canada, the U.S. and across Europe en route to millions in sales and three Grammy Awards. And much of the band’s set was composed of new material, from buoyant first single Every Drop is a Waterfall to Paradise, an ornate bit of chamber-pop resized to stadium scale. Other new highlights included the driving Hurts Like Heaven and the cheerfully roaring Charlie Brown. "We have some new songs — if you don’t like them, you don’t have to buy them or anything," Martin said in his carefully self-deprecating way at the start of the show. Still, the crowd responded warmly to more well-worn corners of the group’s catalogue, with the loudest cheers coming for early alt-rock hit Yellow, anthemic stunner Viva La Vida and Grammy-winning piano ballad Clocks. As has become a recent custom of his, Martin also tossed out a few bars of Amy Winehouse’s Rehab. The band has always excelled at making tunes that are at once earnest and expansive, personal and universal, and the diverse crowd gathered on Wednesday was evidence of their broad appeal. [2]

Coldplay – Toronto (state.ie):

Downtown Toronto is out of sorts tonight, with a 1,000 strong crowd huddled together in the rain, waiting in anticipation for Coldplay. The band are playing a free outdoor show in the parking lot of Much Music (the Canadian equilvant of MTV). As is the way with gigs like this, the rain doesn’t seem to matter, and the moment that Coldplay take to the stage the sky clears. They kick off precedings on an high with new track ‘Hurts Live Heaven’. Witnessing the performance against the backdrop of Toronto’s CN Tower, their lighting and a slew of fireworks makes for an arresting sight, but then again this is Coldplay and they don’t do things by half. On the verge of releasing their fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay are arguably one of the biggest bands in the world right now, and tonight sees them live up to their stadium status despite the intimate surroundings. Playing a careful mix of old and new, we’re treated to six songs from the new album, scattered amongst classics such as ‘Clocks’ and ‘Yellow’. Of the new material showcased, ‘Charlie Brown’ is an immediate standout, with its glorious riff, it’s a song that’s got classic Coldplay written all over it. Interaction with the audience is kept to a minimum, but with a small bit of banter between songs, Chris Martin is humble and charming, even managing a reference to Canada’s very own, Bieber. It’s not all jokes though, there’s a poignant moment during the opening chords to ‘Fix You’, where Martin instead sings a few verses of ‘Rehab’ by the deceased Amy Winehouse. An unexpected highlight was their reworked version of ‘God Put a Smile on Your Face’. Starting off with a stripped down intro of guitar and vocals, the drums then took center stage and what followed turned out to be the the most rousing moment of the night . Chris Martin is the public face, but drummer Will Champion is the band’s unsung hero. Coldplay are old pros at this stage, but they never once go through the motions. Their live show is truly an experience. Closing out the night with ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’, the confetti and fireworks are out in force again, illuminating the city’s skyline to bring the night to a close, a bitter-sweet farewell to summer. Coldplay Test Out New Songs, Cover Amy Winehouse During Free Toronto Concert (Spinner):

On a day when rock enthusiasts were mourning the loss of R.E.M, British rock band Coldplay proved there are still groups out there carrying the torch. The quartet performed a 14-song, 65-minute free show in Toronto Wednesday evening (Sept. 21) – broadcast live in Canada on MuchMusic and in the U.S. on Fuse TV -- supporting their forthcoming 'Mylo Xyloto' album before thousands of fans. And while all braved inclement weather, the skies cleared for the show, which was split evenly between older albums and the upcoming one. Although opening with 'Mylo Xyloto' -- which is little more than a short instrumental -- Coldplay thrived on the bubbly, bouncy 'Hurts Like Heaven' as lead singer Chris Martin strummed his acoustic guitar. Using the same stage setup -- heavy on lasers and other effects -- as used during their summer European festival dates, the band upped the ante with a slightly faster 'Yellow' and anthem-like 'In My Place.'

The only drawback might have been the ridiculous amount of confetti tossed out during 'In My Place,' looking like it was the show closer and not an early offering. "Well good evening everybody," Martin said, thanking fans for putting up with the rain and adding that -- given their traditional English insecurity -- they expected three people to show up in the parking lot adjacent to MuchMusic headquarters. Just a wee bit more than that turned up, Chris! Of the new songs performed, 'Major Minus' unfortunately lived up to its title by at best sounding forced and U2-lite. The mid-tempo framework in 'Paradise' should fare much better with its huge sing-along chorus potential, although it took a little while for the crowd to warm to. What definitely came off as a keeper was the fantastic 'Charlie Brown,' which brings to mind the same infectious yet intricate hook 'Lovers in Japan' had from 2008's 'Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends.' Meanwhile, 'Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall' could have been renamed 'Every Teardrop Is a Firework' given the stream of pyrotechnics soaring high into the sky during the finale (well, the televised finale). After a second half that included 'The Scientist' and 'Fix You' -- the latter of which was unexpectedly intro'd with the chorus to Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab' which got the crowd chiming in on the "no, no, no" -- Coldplay returned for a post-televised encore of 'Us Against the World.' Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion then bowed a few times before calling it a night. The band -- who play Las Vegas and Atlanta later this week -- performed an exclusive 'Live at Letterman' concert in New York City on Sept. 20 that's currently available for streaming. 'Mylo Xyloto' comes out Oct. 24. [4]
