Fan Reviews (Attended)

Okay, this is going to be a short review, as it's now 3:30 am as I start writing this...
I came all the way from California for this show, and had high expectations, and came away just absolutely thrilled - thought it was a fantastic show (muy bueno!). Coolest venue ever. Now, the "Hidden Gigs" from last December were incredible because of their small and intimate nature - this show was spectacular by the gravitas of the venue. Just awesome.
I only found one other Coldplaying member (photo of her and her friend at the bottom - I'll let her identify herself if she'd like!), as I had almost no Internet connectivity, but really enjoyed chatting with her before and after the show.
The sound I think was the best I'd heard at a Coldplay show - not sure if they had different rented (local) gear in addition to their own or it was the acoustics of the venue or what, but it was awesome.
Loved the show itself. I am a huge Anton Corbijn fan, so not having seen the broadcast product yet, I can't comment on that aspect. There was a really cool "flying" video cam up top on wires that could basically capture anything in the arena (posted a pic below). Would have liked more of his influence in the visuals (a la the Depeche Mode 'Devotional' film and tour), but I know they didn't have as much lead up time for this show.
I thought the set list was great. Of course, Coldplay always leave you wanting more... but that's a tribute to how many great songs they have. I wished, from the new album, they'd done "Up With the Birds" and "Princess of China". But you can't have everything.
Anyway, I'm sure everyone here watched it themsevles, so I'll just post some still pics I took below...
Oh, and the "Premium Golden Ticket" was actually more more than I was expecting, compared with the VIP tickets I got for the UCLA/MusicCares gig... they had a cool room set up with free drinks and finger foods, and they let you take funny pics that you are supposed to be able to download with a code on the laminate/lanyard (haven't looked for them yet).
The light up bracelets were really cool in the show... I got a few of those but gave the extras to some other fans in other sections that didn't have them, and just kept one for myself. Also got one of the beach balls. And one other really, really, really cool thing was gifted to me.
Oh, and it did rain - I thought it was a cool, environmentally-friendly effect.

I arrived at the venue at 4:00 pm and one of the guys in the queue had the idea to write numbers on our hands in order to make things more civilized, and it worked quite ok!I still can't remove my number 232 from my hand When we arrived they were doing soundcheck and could hear Paradise, ETIAW and Major Minus, and some Hurts Like Heaven, just to have a sample on what was coming our way, The wait was long but I had a good time with people in the queue so a shoutout to them (a guy named Javi, two girls from Seville and another one with a MX shirt, whose names I can't remember) 'cause I know some are on coldplaying! When doors opened we managed to get a good spot, on the X corner on the right...we were very close and it proved to be a great place since jonny and Chris came just in front of us for In my place and GPASUYF, and the acustic part.
The opening with all those wristbands shining was stunning, really, I still have goosebumps when I think of it. I have to admit that I expected a different setilst from the festivals, and I hoped that they would play Don't let it break your heart or UFO or Up with the Birds...but I guess that only die-hard fans like us coldplayers had followed all the festivals and know what to expect, this was a concert meant to impress people around the world and make them want to buy Mylo, and I think it succeeded. The friend with me likes Coldplay but he's not a fan of them, and was thrilled by the setlist, the new songs, the confetti, the lights...and definitely enjoyed everything. I did too, of course!!Loved the acustic bit, since they were so close! When Chris moved from the piano after Up in Flames to leave room to Will, he turned our way and said "thank you!", which got me thrilled and I was even more thrilled to hear "till kingdom come". I was expecting Us against the world, though, and I'm sad I didn't get to hear it!I really thought that Chris was going to sing a bit of Don Quixote after, since it would have fit so well with the weather!
Can't rememeber who asked it, but Chris started laughing on Politik, I bet he was trying to find sometihng witty to say but couldn't figure out anything, and came up with "give me Jonny on guitar, give me Guy on bass" and it was the first time for me to hear ETIAW live, I have to say that with the rain and everything it turned out epic, such a good energy!
People were expecting another encore, but the only one coming on stage was a elephant head so we realized it was definitely over!
I had a great time and I'm looking forward to watch it over and over again!!also, I want to discover if my butterfly was the first to appear when they played Paradise, I think so but I'm not sure!

Fan Reviews (Livestream)
What a night! Enjoyed the whole show from begining to end... Great stage, great light, great videowall, great audience! Everything was perfect! Great Show!

This was really great, awesome. The crowd, some improvisations from Jonny, little mistakes (I like them), the weather, Up In Flames, Till Kingdome Come the way they played it in the Twisted Logic tour, the X-stage (dont know how to call it) and the fireworks who didnt look to go well haha. And the Ole-part from Chris was great! For a moment I was expecting Don Quixote! I think it was a great show and I can't wait to see them here in Holland!

I loved it all.. loved that they did Kingdom Come. But like everyone would have loved to have seen some new songs.. still great though.. So fab to be able to see it live. Had a few glitches here.. it froze every 4-7 mins then continued..

Well, this was pretty awesome, as usual. Slightly disappointed with the setlist though. I like the new stage. I loved Up In Flames, Violet Hill, 'Til Kingdom Come... Great to see that one back. And God Put A Smile is still so, so good. Funny when Chris went 'I'm gonna trow mah guitah herrreee.'
I had hoped to see more of Anton, but at least the pre-show video was really cool. And Guy's silly walk was hilarious.
Edit: Can't wait to see Chris spraying 'ROTTERDAM' on that screen.

It was just an average show, I thought it was gonna be amazing since they're releasing MX and also hoped they'd include more new songs on it, but they just played the normal setlist once again. I hope this changes when the proper tour starts.

I was a bit disappointed actually. I really thought they would add more new songs. They even skipped UATW! I really love Til Kingdom Come, but why play an oldie like that when you have a new record with a track like UATW?
I still think the setlist is too short for a proper concert. How long did they play? 75 minutes, 80 minutes max? Thats way too short for a band like Coldplay. During the festival gigs it's explainable, but not for a real concert for the real fans. And I think I've seen too many shows this year so far because there aren't really any surprises left for me during the gig. I know when Chris finishes Politik he's gonna play a Viva intro on the piano and when the crowd recognizes is as VLV the song starts. I know when In My Place is finished Chris is going to talk to the crowd in their language and excusing himself 'because his [put in language of the country] is fucking terrible'. And why still play the Amy tribute? And so on.
I was really happy with the atmosphere though. The venue looked amazing and Anton Corbijn did an excellent job. Some shots (especially aerial shots) were amazing. I also laughed when Chris smashed down his guitar after GPASUYF.
Conclusion: an average Coldplay concert, with a bit more mistakes than we're used to actually. I'm really hoping for a new setlist for the coming European tour, because there is just no surprise left for me. And it has to be longer, come on guys, you're not playing festival gigs anymore!
[R23]
I only watched about 7 or 8 songs but I can see already that Chris was little over excited, the vocals weren't great, a little painful at times. Granted, they were having fun, which is great to see. The audience was phenomenal and the venue was spectacular and unique. Like someone else said earlier, perhaps we've been spoiled since we've seen EVERY festival and live performance in 4 months so nothing is a surprise to us. It would be great for them to mix things up a bit. I do hope that the official tour will be slightly different as I feel like I've seen it all. The setlist did seem a bit short, but was still okay. I was front row here in Toronto for their gig at Much Music in September and I felt the performance was super solid...maybe they're just getting tired and need a bit of a break.

Coldplay - Live In Madrid: Anton Corbijn helmed livestream
Plaza de Toros colosseum, Madrid Clash had a perfect view of Coldplay's staggering interactive gig in Madrid last night, sat on an upper level of the impressive Plaza de Toros Colosseum - but thanks to the magic of the Internet, you could be seeing it up close!
The gig was the latest in the series of the livestream shows by American Express Unstaged (following on from Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket and more) who pair up performers with innovative filmmakers to create a stunning multi-sensory experience, while streaming it live online. Coldplay called upon friend and Control director Anton Corbijn to helm the visuals for their unique Spanish concert.
Filmed by fourteen cameras across the bullfighting landmark, including a Spider-Cam, which could span the whole venue in one tracking shot while almost reaching up Chris Martin's nostrils, the band performed a set that spanned classic hits as well as debuts for much of their latest album, the brilliant 'Mylo Xyloto'. The backdrop featured six screens, which throughout the night flickered with images specially designed or chosen by Corbijn, supplying a thrilling accompaniment to Coldplay's music. And the fireworks were pretty bloody special too.
Confetti was fired out at the emotional climax of 'In My Place', fluttering and circling around the trapped wind of the arena. Balloons cascaded down from the upper tiers during 'Lost!', and were bounced around by the crowd. But it was the gathered fans who lent the show the most atmosphere - their spontaneous eruptions of 'Olé, Olé, Olé' at the end of 'Til Kingdom Come' resounded for most of the night, eventually replaced by the primal chant of 'Viva La Vida'.
All the while, millions of viewers round the world were tuning in and watching live - it was being shown as a VEVO event on YouTube, where viewers could choose their own camera angles and direct their own experience. But fear not if you missed it, for the show will be streamed live for the next couple of days for you to devour and enjoy - without being soaked by Madrid's evening rain.
Head over now to http://www.youtube.com/coldplayVEVO to see for yourself the enthusiasm of the Spanish crowds and their passionate devotion to Coldplay, not to mention Anton Corbijn's perfect visual realisations, or Chris Martin's emotional tribute to Amy Winehouse in 'Fix You'. Hurry, it'll be gone soon. In the meantime, if you're on Facebook, simply 'Like' the American Express Entertainment tab on their page and you'll receive three free tracks from the evening.

YouTube show launches Coldplay tour
Coldplay kicked off their European tour with a show broadcast around the world.
The band, due to top the charts with new album Mylo Xyloto this weekend, launched their latest release with an outdoor show in Madrid's premier bull ring.
As fans at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas arena came under a hail of ticker tape, balloons and heavy rain showers, frontman Chris Martin told them: "We have the best fans in the world no question."
Photographer and film-maker Anton Corbijn directed the show, which was broadcast live on YouTube. Fans wore illuminated LED wristbands, filling the venue with flashing lights.
The band have played a handful of shows this year, including a headline slot at Glastonbury, but tonight's gig marks the beginning of the European tour.
Coldplay - now five albums into their career - mixed older hits such as Yellow, Politik and The Scientist with more recent material such as Lost and Violet Hill, along with songs from their new release, including Paradise.
The band launched the album with a press conference in the city but will return home for a low-key show in Norwich. Further UK gigs, including four arena dates, take place next month.
