Bucket For A Crown
From WikiColdplay
At a charity gig on 27th November 2006, Chris Martin performed a four-song set, including two Bob Dylan covers, a song by The Killers and a brand new Coldplay song titled 'Bucket For A Crown'.
Chris claimed that he had written the new song just the night before with the help of a violin player who also joined him on stage.
The Oracle on Bucket For A Crown

Q. Yesterday I found - by chance - a live version of a song called Bucket For a Crown and it was absolutely gorgeous. I wanted to know whether there is a chance we'll be hearing a studio version of it or not. Thanks for reading and I hope you respond to my question.
The Oracle replies:
To be honest, as with many of the songs that are discarded during the recording process, its time and place has passed.
There are a few notable songs that have had a very long incubation period before finally making it to a record (In My Place certainly springs to mind) but there just isn't room for them all. Bucket For a Crown was so long ago now that it just isn't likely to reappear.
Speaking of, it seems quite fitting to be answering this on the eve of Chris & Jonny's MENCAP Little Noise Sessions performance as I seem to remember that's where Bucket For a Crown got its first public airing back in 2006.

Q. Hi,dear Oracle. I was asking myself a few days ago if this song is really from Coldplay called "Bucket For A Crown" Could you talk about this song? here this a link : www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVpuLelhM8U
Thank you and forgive me for my bad English. I'm still learning
Good bye
The Oracle replies:
Chris performed solo in 2006 at Union Chapel in Islington as part of Mencap's Little Noise Sessions. This song aired then but as you'll know it hasn't ever been officially released. There was no announcement saying it would be or anything but this is another example of a song that was written between recording sessions that didn't make it on to an album.
Lyrics
When you’re sitting on a beach in a car with the paint dried up Well, you’re gonna give a cause when the rain washed up Well being just there with the gypsy talking to my friend But you’ll never get with it if you don’t get respect Oh well you’ll never get with it if you just want respect Chorus But sometimes the money’s gonna run out And you’ll be standing on the corner with a belly full of doubt Sometimes somebodys gonna bring you down And you’ll be standing on your own with a bucket for a crown Well me and the boys were standing thinking we were hip I don’t wanna be the captain of a sinking ship Well me and the boys in a town where the Mormon go Listening to a session by Noel Gallagher I was listening to a session by Noel Gallagher They said sometimes your money’s gonna run out And you’ll be standing on a corner with a belly full of doubt Oh someday somebody’s gonna bring you down And you’ll be standing on a corner with a bucket for a crown Oh you’ll be standing on a corner Just waiting on a corner Standing on a corner with a bucket for a crown (Chris says “That’s as far as it goes”)
