Chinese Sleep Chant

Chinese Sleep Chant is a song on Coldplay's fourth album, Viva la Vida Or Death And All His Friends. The song is opens with a jagged guitar riff, quickly settling into a propulsive dance-track loop with low-mixed, angelic vocals. The vocals and lyrics are deliberately incomprehensible, not even being included in the lyric sheet for the Japanese album version or the VLV Tour Programme, although many attempts have been made by Coldplay fans at deciphering them.

The band wrote the song while under hypnosis.

On the album, Chinese Sleep Chant is a hidden, unlisted song that comes after "Yes", which it shares track #6 on the album with. Despite this, it is a key part of the Viva La Vida Tour's setlist and has been performed at every concert since the tour began.

The Oracle on Chinese Sleep Chant

Q. Hi Oracle:
Just read Roadie #42 's latest blog and he said:
"They're most definitely in the zone right now. There have been tinkerings, though with some possible setlist additions in soundchecks. One of the Viva album tracks that only got a rare live outing has had a workout. I really hope it makes it back into the setlist, it's one of my all time favourite Coldplay live tracks (particularly the ending when Jonny goes off into full on guitar hero territory)."
Is it Yes and Chinese Sleep Chant?!
If there is any chance of Chinese Sleep Chant at London I will be over the moon!
Thanks
The Oracle replies:
I have been waiting for this question from the second the blog was published.
I don't want to spoil it because the song isn't actually in the set but may be as the dates go on. Yes was my favourite from Viva so we shall see if #42 and I have the same exquisite taste. I think it was only played once - or maybe twice due to the vocal being so very low.
I really honestly have to say that I doubt Chinese Sleep Chant will be played on this tour though...

Q. Hello there. In Chinese Sleep Chant I could swear that I hear Chad Croeger's vocals in the background. Is he featured in the song or am I going insane? Thanks for the help.
Mady
The Oracle replies:
You might be going insane Mady. Chad Kroeger definitely doesn't feature on Chinese Sleep Chant!

Q. My question is pretty simple: does the extra instrumental piece at the end of Yes have a name?
The Oracle replies:
The song that directly follows Yes is called Chinese Sleep Chant but it isn't instrumental.
There are 3 tracks that segue into another and register as one song:
Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love
Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant
Death & All His Friends/The Escapist
