'Help: A Day In The Life'

Coldplay joined the recording of the "Help: A Day In The Life" charity album at the eleventh hour. The band donate the song 'How You See The World' in an effort to record and release an album in the fastest possible time for the War Child organization. War Child executive Mark Waddington said: "It went really close to the wire but it's great to have them on board."

How You See The World had been previously available only in Japan, but the band remixed it to create a new version with different lyrics for the LP. A spokesperson for the charity added: "Chris Martin re-wrote the lyrics for the project and recorded the vocals at a studio in New York on Thursday 8th September 2005. The vocals were then sent digitally to 'Help' producer Mark Stent who remixed the track on the last night."

The Oracle on How You See The World No.2

November 17, 2010 - submitted by Martin, Australia
Q. Greetings Holy Oracle! How are you? I hope you are well.
I have a question about How You See the World. Which one is No. 1 and which is No. 2, considering the differing opening lyrics:
"Are you missing something?"
and
"They put the world in a tin can"?
Thank you Oracle!
The Oracle replies:
"Are you missing something?" is the opening line of the original song while the latter is How You See The World No. 2 with its changed lyrics.

Q. Oracle, what a fool I am! I've always wanted to know this:
Who is the person who sings along with Chris in How You See the World when they say "we don't wanna be..."?.
The Oracle replies:
The version you are quoting is actually How You See the World (pt. 2) and although you can hear 2 voices during the track they both belong to Chris; it's an overdub.
When they performed the song live on the Twisted Logic tour, Jonny provided backing vocals.

Q. Dear all-knowing
I come before you once again befuzzled and confused, looking for answers. It seems the whole world - and definitely the whole web - is confused about which Coldplay version is How You See The World (Live At Earl's Court), released with The Hardest Part and How You See the World No.2 (released on Help: A Day in the Life). Even iTunes hasn't got it straight I think. Can you just clarify for us please: which version starts with the words "you put the world in a tin can, black market contraband" and which version starts with the words "are you missing something? Looking for something?"
I don't think this question has been asked yet.
The Oracle replies:
Chris re-recorded vocals with new lyrics for the second version that was re-written for the Help!: A Day in the Life album, hence naming it How You See the World No. 2. Its opening line is "You put the world in a tin can".

Lyrics

They put the world in a tin can
Black market, contraband
And it hurt just a little bit
When they sliced and packaged it
In a long black trench coat
Two hands around the throat
Oh, you wanna get it right sometimes

There's so much to be scared of
And not much to make sense of
How did the clowns ever get control?
Ah, if your hear can you let me know
How can they invade it
When it's so complicated?
Oh, you wanna get it right sometimes
You just wanna get it right sometimes

That's how you see the world
How many times can you say
You can't believe what you learned

That's how you see the world
Don't you worry yourself
You're not gonna give up

Oooohhhhh...

And there's something missing
Seems like there's nobody listening
If you're running in a circle
How can you be too careful?
We don't wanna be man trapped
We don't wanna be shrink-wrapped

Ohhhhhhhhh...

We just wanna get it right sometimes
We just wanna get it right sometimes

That's how you see the world
How many times have you heard
But you can't believe a word

That's how you see the world
Ah, don't you worry yourself
Cause nobody can hurt you...

Oooooh
Ooooooooh

Ooooooooh

That's how you see the world
That's how you see the world.
