Background

Lhuna is a song written during sessions for Coldplay's fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends and is known to be a duet with Coldplay and singer Kylie Minogue.

When asked why it didn't make it on to the album, Chris Martin said: “Well, it's just too sexy. At this point, we cannot be that sexy, also we haven’t quite finished it. It’s a song called Lhuna and Kylie is particularly brilliant on it.”

Release

The band had hinted that the song will appear on a new album that may be released in 2009 but it was discovered on 29th November 2008 that the song would be released as a charity song on 1st December 2008 as part of World AIDS Day via the music service Red Wire. It was first heard online at MSN at 7pm (GMT) that same evening.[1]

Anchorman on Lhuna

Fortis est veritas ("truth is strong")[2]

Good afternoon. The song featuring Miss Kylie Minogue is called Lhuna, not Lunar, and is not confirmed to be on the band's next album. Furthermore, eagled-eyed readers of the band's album sleevenotes (or, indeed, their MySpace page) will have noted that Coldplay officially have five members - with the mysterious Mr Phil Harvey making up the quintet. The band would, we're told, be enormously grateful if these inaccuracies could be corrected, so that they don't keep having to answer questions about them.

Review

I Should Be So Lucky... well, I was by being the first journalist in the world to hear the new track by mega music combo, Kyl-dplay, reports News Of The World.[3]

That’s right, Pop royalty Kylie Minogue and Coldplay have teamed up to record a charity song together to raise money for AIDS victims. The track, called Lhuna, is brilliant — it combines Kylie’s seriously sexy voice with the haunting tones of Chris Martin. The results are spectacular. Last night, a music insider told me: “This is the THE duet of the year — you don’t get bigger than Kylie and Coldplay. It’s taken a number of weeks but they finally finished the track last week. It’s something they’re very proud of because it’s being released with the soul aim of raising money for a cause that is very close to their hearts.”

The Oracle on Lhuna

Q. Dear Oracle,
Just looking through the fantastic new discography page on the Coldplay website, and looking through all the singles released on the Viva La Vida album, but where's Lhuna? Was it a single as such? It's the only Coldplay song that I can't find.
Thanks,
Mark
(Looking forward to seeing Coldplay at Wembley in 190 days - 18/09!!!)
The Oracle replies:
It wasn't a Coldplay single per se, it was a collaboration and as you'll see in the discography, collaborations are not listed.

Q. Dear Oracle
I have been wondering now, for a few weeks, wasn't the collaboration with Kylie Minogue-Lhuna- released on the first of December? I can't find it anywhere for digital download. Can you please help me out here? It sounds really good.
The Oracle replies:
Lhuna was released as a digital download via (Red) Wire which launched on 1st December 2008. As it's for a great cause I wouldn't want to discourage people from supporting by posting a YouTube link, but you can hear it on there if you just use their search option.

Q. Is the reason you’ve ignored my question “When will we get to hear Lhuna?” fifteen times, that you simply don’t know the answer? I’m not trying to be rude, I just really want to hear that song and I think my question is as valid post of the ones answered. Much love, Alison
The Oracle replies:
I admire your tenacity I really do and I’m aware that you have repeatedly sent that question. I don’t answer every question and by now I was hoping people would see a pattern emerging. Some answers are being kept quiet as there’s a time and a place for announcements and this isn’t it. Anchorman reports news and so any questions about the future that I know the answer to may not be appropriate to reveal. Patience Alison is a virtue and you strike me as the virtuous kind.

Lyrics

Kylie:

I’m all by myself
I don’t need anybody else
I’m all by myself
No help

I’m all on my own
Quietly sleeping in my home
I’m all on my own
My own

Chris:

Hello
Won’t you let me come in?
Lhuna
Can’t you hear how much I’m suffering?
Hello
Won’t you let me know?
'Cause I’m all alone
All alone

Both:

We are dreaming
About Lhuna
The smell of her
The touch and the taste of her
Dreaming
About Lhuna
Her and me
Simultaneously

Kylie:

I don’t know what the time is
I don’t know where you’ve flown
And I don’t know why you’re so far
From home

Chris:

Hello
Won’t you let me come in?
Lhuna
Can’t you hear how much I’m suffering?
Hello
Won’t you let me know?
'Cause I’m all alone
All alone

Both:

We are dreaming
About Lhuna
The smell of her
The touch and the taste of her
Dreaming
About Lhuna
Her and me
Simultaneously
Her and me
Effortlessly
Oh, her and me
Effortlessly
